TERA successfully completed numerous projects in railway transportation in the United States, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America, and Central and South Asia. Our project experience covers rail car ferry service operations; metro and light and heavy urban rail projects; computer simulation of freight and passenger traffic; locomotive workshop and other fixed facility evaluations; financial/economic feasibility analyses including technical, environmental, poverty, institutional considerations for freight and passenger railway development; railway restructuring, commercialization, concessioning and privatization studies; and intermodal corridor transportation studies including double stack, piggy back and trailer-truck on flat car operations.

TERA's railway project experience includes technical assessments of railway signaling and communications (Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Guatemala, Macedonia, Poland, Romania); track laying and maintenance machinery and equipment (Brazil, Egypt, Kazakhstan); locomotive and wagon workshops (Bulgaria, Malaysia, Thailand, and 10 countries in Southern and Eastern Africa); and market assessments for wheels and bogies, couplers, power components as well as rolling stock. Infrastructure evaluations, trade/traffic forecasting, operational and financial assessments and feasibility studies have been conducted in more than 50 countries.

Intermodal rail car ferry service for passenger and freight operations have been analyzed around the World including the Caspian Sea, the Baltic Sea and Lake Michigan. TERA conducted regional rail corridor assessments for the Balkans and a feasibility study for a regional locomotive workshop and centralized parts warehouse with unit exchange in Eastern and Southern Africa for the Union of African Railways. Metro/light rail system evaluations in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Romania, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, and Venezuela have been undertaken.
